Taxonomy
Protaster perarmatus was named by Whidborne (1896). Its type specimen is Lectotype SM A5519 and is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Eugaster perarmatus by Whidborne (1898); it was recombined as Calyptactis perarmatus by Spencer (1930) and Owen (1965).
