Megaglossoceras was named by Miller et al. (1933) [Sepkoski's age data: C Mosc-u Sepkoski's reference number: 300].

It was assigned to Ephippoceratidae by Hoare (1961) and Teichert et al. (1964); and to Nautilida by Sepkoski (2002).
