Taxonomy
Pterotrigonia cristata was named by van Hoepen (1929). It is not a trace fossil. It is the type species of Pterotrigonia, Pterotrigonia (Pterotrigonia).

It was recombined as Pterotrigonia (Pterotrigonia) cristata by Stilwell (1998).
