Taxonomy
Nautilus was named by Linnaeus (1758) [Sepkoski's age data: T Eo-m R]. It is extant. Its type is Mizuhobaris izumoensis.
It was assigned to Nautilinae by von Mojsisovics (1882) and Diener (1897); to Nautilida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Nautilidae by von Mojsisovics (1896), Martin (1904), Miller (1947), Teichert et al. (1964), Juyal and Mathur (1994) and Ward et al. (2016).
It was assigned to Nautilinae by von Mojsisovics (1882) and Diener (1897); to Nautilida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Nautilidae by von Mojsisovics (1896), Martin (1904), Miller (1947), Teichert et al. (1964), Juyal and Mathur (1994) and Ward et al. (2016).
