Taxonomy
Parametacoceras was named by Miller and Owen (1934) [Sepkoski's age data: C Step-l C Step-u Sepkoski's reference number: 524].

It was assigned to Tainoceratidae by Hoare (1961) and Teichert et al. (1964); to Nautilida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Gzheloceratidae by Shimanskiy (1967) and Laptikhovsky et al. (2013).
