Lyrocardium was named by Meek (1876) [Sepkoski's age data: T Mi R Sepkoski's reference number: 1112]. It is extant.

It was reranked as Nemocardium (Lyrocardium) by Schneider (1995) and Kosnik (2002).

It was assigned to Protocardiinae by Vokes (1980); to Nemocardium by Schneider (1995) and Kosnik (2002); and to Veneroida by Sepkoski (2002).
