Taxonomy
Smithiphyllum aquilonium was named by McLean and Pedder (1987). It is not a trace fossil. Its type locality is Mackenzie River near Bluefish Creek, which is in a Frasnian coastal sandstone/limestone in the Imperial Formation of Canada.
