Taxonomy
Ammonites fontinalis was named by Hudleston (1890) [DISTRIBUTION: Aptian; Australia.]. It is not a trace fossil. Its type locality is Primrose Springs [Roma Series], which is in an Aptian marine claystone in Australia.

It was recombined as Sanmartinoceras fontinale by Whitehouse (1926) and Whitehouse (1927).
