Taxonomy
Rhiphaeoceras was named by Ruzhentsev and Shimanskiy (1954) [Sepkoski's age data: P Leon Sepkoski's reference number: 524]. Its type is Rhiphaeoceras venustum. It is the type genus of Rhiphaeoceratidae.

It was assigned to Nautilida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Rhiphaeoceratidae by Ruzhentsev and Shimanskiy (1954), Teichert et al. (1964) and Smyshlyaeva and Zakharov (2017).
