Somalinautilus was named by Spath (1927) [Sepkoski's age data: J Bajo J Kimm-u Sepkoski's reference number: 524,1066].

It was assigned to Paracenoceratidae by Teichert et al. (1964); and to Nautilida by Sepkoski (2002).
