Taxonomy
Ancyloceras beyrichii was named by Karsten (1858). It is not a trace fossil. It is the type species of Karsteniceras.

It was recombined as Leptoceras beyrichii by Breistroffer (1936); it was recombined as Karsteniceras beyrichi by Kakabadze and Hoedemaeker (1997); it was recombined as Karsteniceras beyrichii by Klein et al. (2007).
