Sinopliosaurus weiyuanensis

Taxonomy
Sinopliosaurus weiyuanensis was named by Young (1944). Its type specimen is IVPP V140, a partial skeleton (tooth, 3 vertebrae), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Locality 1, Changshanling, Potzewan, which is in a Toarcian terrestrial horizon in the Ziliujing Formation of China. It is the type species of Sinopliosaurus.

It was considered a nomen dubium by Buffetaut et al. (2008).

C.-C. Young 1944Tooth small and more or less curved. Crown longitudinally grooved. Vertebrae amphyplatyan. Its length exceeds the breadth. Femur of usual Plesiosaurian type, rather elongated. Ischium about the size and structure of Leurospondylus ultimus Brown which is hatchet-head shaped with a thick concave and expanded posterior distal part.
