Halocyprida was named by Dana (1853). It is extant.

It was corrected as Halocypridida by Liebau (2005).

It was assigned to Myodocopomorpha by Liebau (2005); to Podocopa by Sebe et al. (2013); and to Myodocopa by Martin and Davis (2001), Chitnarin (2017), Forel (2017) and Hegna et al. (2020).
