Deuterotrisauropus was named by Ellenberger (1965). It is considered to be a form taxon. Its type is Deuterotrisauropus socialis.

It was synonymized subjectively with Grallator by Gand et al. (2005); it was synonymized subjectively with Eubrontes by Lucas et al. (2006).

It was assigned to Trisauropodia by Ellenberger (1972); and to Theropoda by Romero Molina et al. (2003).
