Tritotrisauropus was named by Ellenberger (1970). It is considered to be a form taxon. Its type is Tritotrisauropus medius.

It was synonymized subjectively with Grallator by Klein and Lucas (2021).

It was assigned to Anchisauridae by Ellenberger (1970); to Thecodontosauria by Ellenberger (1972); and to Theropoda by Romero Molina et al. (2003).
