Cycloplectoceras was named by Ulrich et al. (1942) [Sepkoski's age data: O Aren-u Sepkoski's reference number: 524]. Its type is Cycloplectoceras miseri.
It was assigned to Plectoceratidae by Ulrich et al. (1942); and to Tarphyceratidae by Teichert et al. (1964) and Crick (1981).
