Leurotrochoceras was named by Foerste (1926) [Sepkoski's age data: S Wenl-u Sepkoski's reference number: 1066].

It was assigned to Lechritrochoceratidae by Teichert et al. (1964) and Crick (1981); and to Tarphyceratida by Sepkoski (2002).
