It was recombined as Haliaeetus leucocephalus by Hay (1930), Wetmore (1931), Wetmore (1940), Miller and DeMay (1942), Wetmore (1956), Parmalee (1958), Wilson (1967), Olson and James (1991), Guthrie (1992), Parmalee (1992), Broughton (2004), Kilmer and Steadman (2016) and Clements et al. (2017).
