Taxonomy
Phylloceras mediterraneum was named by Neumayr (1871). It is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Phylloceras (Triphyllites) mediterraneum by Douvillé (1916); it was recombined as Holcophylloceras mediterraneum by Wright et al. (1996), Grigore (2011) and Grigore (2013).
