Lechritrochoceras was named by Foerste (1926) [Sepkoski's age data: S Wenl-u Sepkoski's reference number: 524]. It is the type genus of Lechritrochoceratidae.

It was assigned to Lechritrochoceratidae by Teichert et al. (1964); and to Barrandeocerida by Sepkoski (2002).
