Lyrioceras was named by Foerste (1927) [Sepkoski's age data: D Give-l Sepkoski's reference number: 299,524].

It was assigned to Nephriticeratidae by Teichert et al. (1964); and to Barrandeocerida by Sepkoski (2002).
