Glossosomatidae was named by Wallgren (1891). It is extant. Its type is Glossosoma.

It was assigned to Trichoptera by Carpenter (1992); to Spicipalpia by Wichard et al. (2009) and Wichard (2013); and to Integripalpia by Thomas et al. (2020) and Thomas et al. (2023).
