Taxonomy
Uranoceras was named by Hyatt (1884) [Sepkoski's age data: S Wenl S Ludl Sepkoski's reference number: 524,1066]. It is the type genus of Uranoceratidae.

It was assigned to Uranoceratidae by Teichert et al. (1964); and to Barrandeocerida by Sepkoski (2002).
