Taxonomy
Bactrites was named by Sandberger (1843) [Sepkoski's age data: D Emsi-l P Tatr Sepkoski's reference number: 302,1066]. Its type is Bactrites pandanifoliolus. It is the type genus of Bactritidae.

It was assigned to Bactritida by Teichert et al. (1964); and to Bactritidae by Mapes (1979) and Kröger (2008).
