Rhynchopora australasica was named by Archbold (1995). Its type specimen is CPC 33524, a valve (Ventral valve), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is BMR ML6, Moogooree Homestead, which is in an Asselian marine siliciclastic in Australia.
