Taxonomy
Diatryma filifera was named by Cockerell (1923). Its type specimen is U. S. National Museum no. 10908, a root (supposed avian feathers), and it is a compression fossil.
It was recombined as Carpolithus filiferus by Brown (1934); it was recombined as Cyperus filiferus by Brown (1959); it was considered a nomen dubium by Wetmore (1930); it was recombined as Cyperacites filiferus by Becker (1962).
