Gaurites was named by Bogoslovsky (1984) [Sepkoski's age data: D Emsi-l]. It is not extant. Its type is Gaurites sperandus.

It was assigned to Anarcestida by Sepkoski (2002); to Auguritinae by Korn and Klug (2002); and to Auguritidae by Korn (2006).
