Kimoceras was named by Bogoslovsky (1980) [Sepkoski's age data: D Emsi Sepkoski's reference number: 1066]. It is not extant. Its type is Kimoceras lentiforme.

It was assigned to Anarcestida by Sepkoski (2002); to Parentitinae by Korn and Klug (2002); and to Auguritidae by Korn (2006).
