Captorhinus laticeps

Taxonomy
Pariotichus laticeps was named by Williston (1909). Its type specimen is CNHM (FMNH) UC 642, a partial skeleton, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Mitchell Creek, 29 (Waggoner Ranch Formation), which is in an Artinskian/Kungurian terrestrial limestone/shale in the Waggoner Ranch Formation of Texas.

It was synonymized subjectively with Captorhinus isolomus by Case (1911); it was synonymized subjectively with Captorhinus aguti by Seltin (1959) and Gaffney (1990); it was recombined as Eocaptorhinus laticeps by Heaton (1979); it was recombined as Captorhinus laticeps by Dodick and Modesto (1995) and Modesto et al. (2007).

Synonyms
  • Labidosaurus oklahomensis was named by Seltin (1959). Its type specimen is OUSM 15022 (MUO 3-1-S7), a partial skull, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is McCann Quarry, which is in a Leonardian fluvial-deltaic sandstone/sandstone in the Wellington Formation of Oklahoma.

    It was synonymized subjectively with Eocaptorhinus laticeps by Heaton (1979); it was synonymized subjectively with Captorhinus laticeps by Modesto et al. (2007).
