Palaeocursornis was named by Kessler and Jurcsák (1986) [nomen nudum in Jurcsák and Kessler 1985 (p. 138), validated by Kessler and Jurcsák 1986]. It is not extant. Its type is Palaeocursornis biharicus.

It was considered a nomen dubium by Dyke et al. (2011).

It was assigned to Palaeocursornithidae by Bock and Bühler (1996); to Ornithurae by Hope (2002); and to Pterosauria by Agnolin and Varricchio (2012).

  • Palaeocursornis biharicus was named by Kessler and Jurcsák (1986) [nomen nudum in Jurcsák and Kessler 1985 (p. 138), validated by Kessler and Jurcsák 1986]. Its type specimen is MTCO-P 1637, a limb element (distal fragment of a left femur), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Brusturi Mine, Cornet 204 lens, which is in a Berriasian karst conglomerate/claystone in the Lower Bauxite Formation of Romania. It is the type species of Palaeocursornis.

    It was synonymized objectively with Palaeocursornis corneti by Bock and Bühler (1996); it was considered a nomen dubium by Dyke et al. (2011).
