Parentites was named by Bogoslovsky (1961) [Sepkoski's age data: D Emsi-l D Emsi-u Sepkoski's reference number: 302,457,1103]. It is not extant. It is the type genus of Parentitidae.

It was assigned to Anarcestida by Sepkoski (2002); to Parentitinae by Korn and Klug (2002); and to Auguritidae by Korn (2006).
