Taxonomy
Petteroceras was named by Bogoslovsky (1962) [Sepkoski's age data: D Give-u D Fras-l Sepkoski's reference number: 302,1042]. It is not extant. Its type is Pharciceras errans. It is the type genus of Petteroceratidae.

It was assigned to Anarcestida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Petteroceratidae by Korn and Klug (2002), Korn (2006), Bockwinkel et al. (2013) and Bockwinkel et al. (2015).
