Taxonomy
Tamarites was named by Bogoslovsky (1965) [Sepkoski's age data: D Give-u D Fras-l Sepkoski's reference number: 302,457,1042]. It is not extant. Its type is Tamarites subitus. It is the type genus of Tamaritidae.

It was assigned to Anarcestida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Tamaritidae by Korn and Klug (2002) and Korn (2006).
