Taxonomy
Serpula polythalamia was named by Linnaeus (1767) [DISTRIBUTION: Late Eocene-Recent; Indian Ocean.]. It is extant. It is the type species of Kuphus.

It was recombined as Kuphus polythalamius by Azzaroli (1958); it was recombined as Kuphus polythalamia by Oostingh (1935) and Vokes (1972).
