Timanoceras was named by Bogoslovsky (1957) [Sepkoski's age data: D Fras-m Sepkoski's reference number: 302,457]. It is not extant. Its type is Timanoceras ellipsoidale.

It was assigned to Anarcestida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Gephuroceratinae by Korn and Klug (2002) and Korn (2006).
