Taxonomy
Castiglionastrea tenuisepta was named by Gill et al. (2004). Its type locality is Castiglione, which is in a Kimmeridgian deep subtidal shelf limestone in the Bugarone superiore Formation of Italy. It is the type species of Castiglionastrea.
