Taxonomy
Aenigmatoceras was named by Ruzhentsev and Bogoslovskaya (1978) [Sepkoski's age data: C Bash-l Sepkoski's reference number: 304]. Its type is Aenigmatoceras rhipaeum.

It was assigned to Goniatitida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Cravenoceratinae by Korn (2006) and Furnish et al. (2009).
