Taxonomy
Alaoceras was named by Ruzhentsev and Bogoslovskaya (1971) [Sepkoski's age data: C Vise-u C Serp-l Sepkoski's reference number: 302,304]. Its type is Alaoceras bajtalense.

It was assigned to Goniatitida by Sepkoski (2002); to Cravenoceratinae by Korn (2006); and to Lyrogoniatitinae by Furnish et al. (2009).
