Almites was named by Toumansky (1941) [Sepkoski's age data: C Step-u P Sakm-u]. It is not extant.

It was reranked as Marathonites (Almites) by Ruzhentsev (1956).

It was assigned to Marathonites by Ruzhentsev (1956); to Goniatitida by Sepkoski (2002); to Marathonitinae by Leonova (1989), Bogoslovskaya (1990) and Korn (2006); and to Marathonitidae by Furnish et al. (2009) and Zhou (2017).
