Taxonomy
Alpinites was named by Bogoslovsky (1971) [Sepkoski's age data: D Fame-m D Fame-u Sepkoski's reference number: 302,457,1042]. It is not extant. Its type is Wedekindoceras kayseri.

It was assigned to Goniatitida by Sepkoski (2002); to Posttornoceratidae by Becker (2002); and to Discoclymeniinae by Korn and Klug (2002) and Korn (2006).
