Nomismoceras (Anthracoceras) was named by Frech (1899) [Sepkoski's age data: C Serp-l Sepkoski's reference number: 302]. It is not extant. Its type is Nomismoceras (Anthracoceras) discus.

It was reranked as Anthracoceras by Sepkoski (2002), Korn (2006) and Furnish et al. (2009).

It was assigned to Nomismoceras by Frech (1899); to Goniatitida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Anthracoceratidae by Korn (2006) and Furnish et al. (2009).
