Cleiothyridina barbata was named by Chronic (1949). Its type specimen is AMNH 26924/2:1, a shell (Articulated shell), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is AMNH303, Section 11, Pomachaca, which is in a Bashkirian/Moscovian marine horizon in Peru.
