Taxonomy
Witwatia eremicus was named by Gunnell et al. (2008). Its type specimen is CGM 83669, a tooth (left [upper] M1 or M2), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Birket Qarun 2, which is in a Priabonian channel sandstone in the Birket Qarun Formation of Egypt.
