Taxonomy
Cluthoceras was named by Currie (1954) [Sepkoski's age data: C Serp-l Sepkoski's reference number: 304]. It is not extant. Its type is Cluthoceras truemani.

It was reranked as Muensteroceras (Cluthoceras) by Gordon (1964).

It was assigned to Muensteroceras by Gordon (1964); to Goniatitida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Muensteroceratidae by Korn (2006) and Furnish et al. (2009).
