Felis quadridentata was named by de Blainville (1843). It is the type species of Pseudaelurus.
It was recombined as Pseudaelurus quadridentata by Hay (1902); it was recombined as Pseudaelurus quadridentatus by Gervais (1850) and Rothwell (2004).
