Taxonomy
Turritella cingulata was named by Hisinger (1829). It is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Murchisonia cingulata by Lindström (1884) and Etheridge (1888); it was recombined as Hormotoma cingulata by Ulrich and Scofield (1897), Donald (1899) and Peel (1979); it was recombined as Turritoma cingulata by Donald (1902); it was recombined as Murchisonia (Hormotoma) cingulata by Peel (1977); it was recombined as Catazone cingulata by Wagner (2023).
