Demarezites was named by Ruzhencev (1955) [Sepkoski's age data: P Leon-u Sepkoski's reference number: 732]. It is not extant. Its type is Waagenoceras oyensi.
It was assigned to Goniatitida by Sepkoski (2002); to Cyclolobinae by Furnish et al. (2009); and to Cyclolobidae by Leonova (2002), Korn (2006) and Leonova (2010).
