Pleurotomaria notabilis was named by d'Eichwald (1840). It is a 3D body fossil.

It was misspelled as Eotomaria notablis by Rõõmusoks (1970); it was recombined as Eotomaria notabilis by Koken and Perner (1925), Frisk and Ebbestad (2007) and Wagner (2023).
