Dyspolyneura was named by Rohdendorf (1961). Its type is Dyspolyneura longipennis. It is the type genus of Dyspolyneuridae.

It was assigned to Dyspolyneuridae by Rohdendorf (1961) and Carpenter (1992); and to Protopleciidae by Krzemiński (1992).
