Ferganoceras was named by Librovitch (1957) [Sepkoski's age data: C Serp-l Sepkoski's reference number: 302,304]. It is not extant. It is the type genus of Ferganoceratidae.
It was assigned to Goniatitida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Ferganoceratidae by Korn (2006) and Furnish et al. (2009).
